
The Speaker of the Union Republic Parliament, Hon. Mussa Azzan Zungu (MP), who is also the Member of Parliament for Ilala Constituency, Dar es Salaam, today, March 4, 2026, visited the implementation site of the Msimbazi River Valley Development Project and received explanations on the plan for the project’s implementation, which is expected to take six (6) years.
The Government of Tanzania, through the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, is implementing the Msimbazi Valley Development Project at a cost of 260 million US dollars, of which 200 million dollars is a soft loan from the World Bank, 30 million dollars is funding from the Government of the Netherlands, and 30 million dollars is a loan from the Government of Spain.
The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) are the implementers of the Msimbazi Valley Development Project on behalf of the respective ministries.
The main objective of the Msimbazi Valley Development Project is to combat floods and strengthen urban planning and development in the lower Msimbazi Valley area, which has significant economic opportunities due to its central location within the city.
The tasks to be implemented in the Project include:
- Compensation payments for residents
- Construction of infrastructure
- Construction of a rapid bus transit depot
- Construction of a modern Magomeni bridge (400m)
- Expansion and construction of Msimbazi River banks
- Construction of a market
- Solid waste management
- Construction of a City park, as well as developing residential and commercial areas
- Preparation of a land use plan
- Livelihood restoration for the community
- Valley management
