The Msimbazi Basin Development Project has entered a major and critical phase of implementation following the official selection and signing of the contract with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) as the project contractor.
To ensure peaceful and efficient implementation, the Project Coordination Office conducted a special two-day training session (July 1–2, 2026) to build the capacity of the Grievance Redress Committees (GRCs) at the Ward and Local (Mtaa) levels. This training involved a total of 126 participants from all areas covered by the project.
Why This Training Is Important Now
- Revitalization of Committees: In December 2025, these committees were updated to fill vacancies left by members who relocated from the area after receiving their compensation.
- Compliance with International Standards: Under the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Standards (ESS), it is a legal requirement to have a robust system for hearing and resolving community grievances.
- Conflict Prevention: Mega-projects often bring temporary challenges to the surrounding community. These committees exist to ensure all grievances are resolved early and fairly.
Main Objective: To strengthen transparency, accountability, and build solid trust between the Project management and the surrounding community, ensuring the project is completed productively and without obstacles.
